Cardiologists, CEOs and Psychiatrists are top 3 highest paying job positions in Roanoke

Roanoke, Virginia – According to the U.S. News and World Report, the highest paying jobs in America in 2023 were mostly in the health care sector, such as anesthesiologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists, surgeons and orthodontists, who all earned an annual median salary of $208,000. Other high-paying occupations included chief executives, psychiatrists, pediatricians, dentists and petroleum engineers.

However, these high-paying jobs were not immune to the effects of inflation, which reached a 6.5% annual rate in December 2022, the highest since 1982. Inflation eroded the purchasing power of workers and consumers, as the prices of goods and services rose faster than wages and incomes. Inflation also contributed to a slowdown in hiring, as employers faced higher costs and lower demand. The unemployment rate rose from 4.2% in November 2022 to 4.6% in December 2022, the highest since April 2021.

The outlook for 2023 was not very optimistic, as many economists and financial experts predicted a recession in the U.S., due to persistent inflationary pressures, tighter monetary policy, geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and the emergence of new variants of the coronavirus.
