Virginia Tech students will help with flood relief efforts in Kentucky

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Virginia Tech will be sending a group of students to assist with the relief operations for the flooding in Kentucky.

Students will be helping victims in Letcher County, Kentucky, by removing mud from their houses, providing meals for them, and arranging supplies for them.

“Holler to Holler” is the name the initiative goes by.

Before going back to Blacksburg on September 5, about thirty students will go to the area on September 3 to help with relief efforts.

“For the volunteers involved in this effort, really, the main focus is serving back and helping the community, because one of the beautiful things about being a part of a community is that when there are those that are suffering, and those in times of need, it’s up to us that go support and uplift them,” Virginia Tech senior Gabriel Mendelson said.

In addition, the group is raising money to donate to the relief efforts in the state of Kentucky. Please here here if you would like to make a donation.

As a college student, making an extra buck now and then was very important. I started as a part-time reporter since I was 19 yo, and I couldn’t believe it might become a long-time career. I'm happy to be part of the Virginian Tribune's team.
