Virginia Foundation AG in the Classroom offers grants for classroom projects

RICHMOND, Va. – As part of the celebration of Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom’s 30th year of bringing students to agriculture, more opportunities than ever before are being made available.

“I feel like we grew 10 years in the last 18 months due to the pandemic, but the results of that have been a huge amount of web resources for our educators,” said Tammy Maxey, executive director, Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom.

They offer two YouTube channels and other multimedia areas on their website, each of which has information and engaging activities for students of various grade levels, covering a variety of agricultural topics. The content is available for free access at any time, and it does not matter whether you teach in a traditional school setting or if you educate your own children at home. Seeing students finally understand something is the reward for all the hard work teachers put in.

“Seeing that light of enlightenment as people learn something new is what makes me come to work every day,” Maxey said.

Teachers are being offered the opportunity to submit an application for a grant via the organization Ag in the Classroom, which will provide financial support for classroom projects.

“We have a grant program that our final deadline is in mid-October and that grant will be for teachers to receive up to $500 for their classroom projects,” Maxey said.
