RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported a total of 668,147 coronavirus cases and 10,934 virus-related deaths as of Wednesday, including 561 new confirmed and probable cases and 15 new confirmed and probable fatalities from around the Commonwealth.
Virginia health officials confirmed 520,333 cases and 9,224 deaths are related to the virus as of Wednesday, May 12. However, 147,814 cases and 1,710 deaths are still reported as “probable.”
According to VDH’s Wednesday report, more than 101,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:
- Alleghany County: 1,338 cases, 59 hospitalizations, and 48 deaths
- Amherst County: 2,920 cases, 122 hospitalizations, and 37 deaths
- Appomattox County: 1,592 cases, 68 hospitalizations, and 25 deaths
- Bath County: 270 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
- Bedford County: 6,366 cases, 225 hospitalizations, and 101 deaths
- Bland County: 677 cases, 27 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
- Botetourt County: 2,526 cases, 65 hospitalizations, and 36 deaths
- Buena Vista: 906 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 20 deaths
- Campbell County: 4,477 cases, 168 hospitalizations, and 86 deaths
- Carroll County: 2,656 cases, 211 hospitalizations, and 71 deaths
- Charlotte County: 863 cases, 55 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
- Covington: 597 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
- Craig County: 311 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
- Danville: 4,398 cases, 284 hospitalizations, and 137 deaths
- Floyd County: 855 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
- Franklin County: 4,038 cases, 179 hospitalizations, and 76 deaths
- Galax: 1,165 cases, 96 hospitalizations, and 52 deaths
- Giles County: 1,278 cases, 51 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
- Grayson County: 1,464 cases, 93 hospitalizations, and 35 deaths
- Halifax County: 2,808 cases, 78 hospitalizations, and 77 deaths
- Henry County: 4,576 cases, 350 hospitalizations, and 122 deaths
- Highland County: 109 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
- Lexington: 1,199 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths
- Lynchburg: 7,754 cases, 332 hospitalizations, and 150 deaths
- Martinsville: 1,596 cases, 156 hospitalizations, and 76 deaths
- Montgomery County: 9,366 cases, 184 hospitalizations, and 95 deaths
- Nelson County: 892 cases, 39 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
- Patrick County: 1,353 cases, 104 hospitalizations, and 43 deaths
- Pittsylvania County: 5,533 cases, 245 hospitalizations, and 80 deaths
- Pulaski County: 2,636 cases, 126 hospitalizations, and 61 deaths
- Radford: 2,142 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
- Roanoke City: 8,448 cases, 249 hospitalizations, and 192 deaths
- Roanoke County: 8,239 cases, 177 hospitalizations, and 144 deaths
- Rockbridge County: 1,528 cases, 48 hospitalizations, and 46 deaths
- Salem: 2,155 cases, 72 hospitalizations, and 47 deaths
- Wythe County: 2,644 cases, 153 hospitalizations, and 78 deaths

Since Tuesday, May 11, the VDH reported 10 new COVID-19 cases in Bedford County, 10 in Lynchburg, eight in Danville, seven in Roanoke City, seven in Roanoke County, six in Franklin County, five in Pulaski County, four in Halifax County, three in Carroll County, three in Montgomery County, three in Patrick County, three in Radford, three in Rockbridge County, two in Botetourt County, two in Buena Vista, two in Campbell County, two in Charlotte County, two in Floyd County, two in Grayson County, two in Wythe County, one in Bland County, one in Galax, one in Henry County, one in Lexington, one in Martinsville, and one in Salem.
In addition, of the 15 new virus-related deaths reported on Wednesday, health officials say eight are from the localities listed above. More specifically, two are from Bedford County, two are from Danville, one is from Amherst County, one is from Carroll County, one is from Floyd County, and one is from Lynchburg.
The department has received 29,038 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Wednesday, which is 67 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Tuesday.
Of these newly-reported hospitalizations from Wednesday, three are from Bedford County, two are from Danville, two are from Franklin County, two are from Henry County, two are from Lynchburg, two are from Pittsylvania County, two are from Roanoke City, one is from Campbell County, one is from Carroll County, one is from Charlotte County, one is from Montgomery County, and one is from Pulaski County.
