Two planes diverted to Norfolk as a result of severe weather

NORFOLK, Va. — As a result of the bad weather that was taking place on Tuesday afternoon, two planes that were scheduled to land at airports in the region of Washington, DC were diverted to Norfolk International Airport instead.

Ground stops have been established at three airports in the Washington, D.C. area: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

This affected United Airlines Flight 988 from Frankfurt, Germany to Dulles, as well as Southwest Airlines Flight 2443 from Jacksonville, Florida to Baltimore, Maryland.

A spokesperson from United Airlines has verified that Flight 988 will proceed to Dulles once the weather conditions have improved. A spokesperson from Southwest Airlines has confirmed that flight 2443 landed safely in Baltimore, which was the scheduled destination.
