“Trace Elements: An Installation by Artists Amanda Lechner and Michael Borowski” exhibit starts Aug. 30 at Alexander Black House
The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation is pleased to announce “Trace Elements: An Installation by Artists Amanda Lechner and Michael Borowski,” which will be on exhibit in the main galleries of the Alexander Black House from August 30 through September 28. The Alexander Black House is located at 204 Draper Road SW.
Community members are invited to attend a reception marking the new show on Friday, September 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be music as well as refreshments served.
BM&CF hired local artists Lechner and Borowski to create an installation inspired by items in the museum’s collection. The final project is a conversation between their artwork, objects from the Virginia Tech Geoscience Museum, and the natural environment of the New River Valley.
Borowski’s series of cyanotypes processed with water from Yellow Sulphur Springs in Christiansburg mixed with Lechner’s paintings made with homemade ink from locally obtained walnuts, oak gall, and collected rusty iron. Both artists’ works reflect on time, location, and materials, relating to the spaces, archives, human history, built environments, and geologic history of Southwestern Virginia.
