SPAYghetti fundraiser hosted by Roanoke Valley SPCA

ROANOKE, Va. – Tuesday was the day that the Roanoke Valley SPCA held its annual SPAYghetti fundraiser, which included both a lunch and a supper.

After the meal, which consisted of spaghetti with marinara sauce, breadsticks, salad, and a drink, attendees were invited to a bake sale where they could purchase something sweet.

The shelter’s veterinary care and other animal-related expenses are paid for using the money raised from the lunch and supper on Tuesday.

The Roanoke Valley SPCA’s marketing director talked about how the rising cost of caring for animals is hurting the organization’s finances this year.

“Without any special expenses, those vet costs have just gone up and basic needs have just gone up. Food has gone up; all of those kinds of things have gone up, so this is really important for us this year,” Julie Rickmond said.

This year, the homeless shelter hopes to raise a total of $25,000. Dinner will be served at The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke between the hours of 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.
