Southbound I-81 in Roanoke County closed due to a fatal crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer

An accident that resulted in a fatality has caused the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Roanoke County to be closed since 11:40.

According to the Virginia State Police, the collision took place around 10:39 in the morning. It was near the 135.5 mile marker.

As of 1 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation said that the southbound traffic congestion on I-81 was nearly four miles long.

Entrapment occurred when a tractor-trailer overturned in the middle of the road.

At this moment, the police are unaware if any more cars are involved, but there are delays in traffic due to the accident.

VDOT is diverting southbound traffic from exit 137 to U.S. 11/460.
