Shooting incident at a Norfolk apartment complex leaves 3 dead and 2 injured
NORFOLK, Va. – The shooting that occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Fenner Gardens apartment complex resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to two more.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. in a house on the 7400 block of Fenner Street, which is right next to the Walmart on Tidewater Drive.
According to the Norfolk Police Department, three men were declared dead at the scene, while two others were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Clay Marquez, an anti-violence activist, said, “It’s a sad day in Norfolk. It is a travesty and I’m at a loss for words. I mean, I’m really shaken by it. The whole community should be shaken by it.”
It was confirmed by Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi that this is a murder inquiry. The police have not released any information about possible suspects.
Just a few hours before the Fenner Street incident, there was another gunshot in Norfolk. Two people were shot at Wards Corner, 10 minutes away from this location, and one of them succumbed to his injuries.
The police have said that there is no connection between these two incidents.
Marquez, who runs a “Guns Down” movement, said that he prays for the families affected by the violence in Norfolk on Thursday afternoon. He implores everyone in the community to work together to find solutions.
“I want people to understand, this could have been one of their family members that they lost and that violence can knock on anybody’s door. We have to get in front of this thing and become more proactive and get involved. Everybody has to play a part in this if we want it to end,” Marquez said.
