Several Hampton residences evacuated after a gas leak

NORFOLK, Va. — A construction worker in Hampton accidentally damaged a gas line at approximately 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, which resulted in a leak and caused the surrounding neighborhood to be evacuated.

According to Chief Anthony Chittum of the Hampton Fire and Rescue Department, the leak occurred near the intersection of Hardy Cash Drive and Executive Drive.

He said that, as a consequence of the incident, multiple residences in the vicinity had to be evacuated.

On Tuesday afternoon, the fire department was waiting around for the gas company to come and turn off the gas.

There were no injuries reported. Roads were closed while crews were resolving the issue.
