Salem Rescue Squad celebrated its 90th anniversary

SALEM, Va. – Tuesday marked the anniversary of the Salem Rescue Squad. They were celebrating 90 years of service to the Roanoke Valley.

The agency began its service as a lifesaving crew when it was initially established in 1932. The whole crew was made up of volunteers from the Salem Fire Department, Police Department, and Street Department.

One of the squad’s members and longest-serving members expressed his feelings and said he was proud of being a part of the crew that has been saving lives for 90 years.

In 1987, the department moved its headquarters to its present location on South Broad Street.

The Salem Rescue Squad will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a celebratory banquet on Saturday.
