Salem Civic Center adopts a clear bag policy due of the security efficiency

SALEM, Va. – The Salem Civic Center is the most recent event venue in the Roanoke Valley to adopt a clear bag policy.

Beginning on September 17, carrying large bags, backpacks, and other bags that are not transparent will not be permitted.

After the clear bag policy for the Budweiser Summer Series in downtown Roanoke worked well, the policy has been changed.

The director of civic facilities indicated that the decision to speed up the process of people going through security was made by the event organizers.

“This really doesn’t have anything to do with gun safety, this is really about the speed and just getting people in. The funny thing is in our industry people are always trying to sneak in food, which it sounds crazy but you know we’re here to make a profit as well,” Wendy Delano said.

Delano also elaborated on how adopting the policy will bring it in line with other Roanoke Valley event venues.

The Salem Civic Center has adopted a clear bag policy, making it similar to Roanoke’s Berglund Center and Dr. Pepper Park.
