Prison sentence handed to a Roanoke man responsible for 2019 fatal crash

Roanoke, Virginia – A man from Roanoke pleaded guilty to multiple charges stemming from the death of a man in a crash in 2019.
The sentencing trial took place on February 18, 2022, and he was sentenced to 31 years behind bars.
Kenneth Inger had pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, driving under the influence, and two counts of hit-and-run. For the death of Thomas “Pete” Orr, he entered a no-contest plea to felony murder. The charge of murder had been filed in place of an earlier charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Inger’s driver’s license has been suspended indefinitely.
“I feel relief because it’s been dread for two and a half years we’ve waited a very long time. It’s never going to be enough. We have been given a life sentence without our husband, without our father,” said Mary Beth Orr, Pete’s widow.
According to authorities, Inger confessed to the officers that he had smoked marijuana prior to the accident. In addition to smoking marijuana, police said he had been driving “at a high rate of speed” before the crash.
