More than 1,000 backpacks with school supplies donated by Amazon

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — More than a thousand children’s backpacks have been filled with school materials and are waiting to be given to those kids who will soon be returning to school.

On Friday, employees from Amazon’s Norfolk Delivery Station put them together, and then on Saturday, they were delivered to the charity ForKids in the Chesapeake area. A total of 1,250 backpacks were filled with the necessary school supplies.

Amazon stated that it was a part of the company’s Global Month of Volunteering campaign. As part of this campaign, there are over one hundred events planned across the country that will “surprise students and educators and support school districts’ efforts to increase access to tools and resources for children in underserved communities.”

The main goal of ForKids is to break the cycle of homelessness for children and their families by providing assistance with housing and education for underprivileged children.

As a college student, making an extra buck now and then was very important. I started as a part-time reporter since I was 19 yo, and I couldn’t believe it might become a long-time career. I'm happy to be part of the Virginian Tribune's team.
