Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – A man was fatally shot early Friday morning in Montgomery County, according to the Blacksburg Police Department.

Blacksburg police said they responded to a complaint on Yellow Sulphur Road around 2:00 a.m.

According to the department, a man opened fire on the officers and deputies at the location, resulting in a shootout. The department reports that officers and deputies administered first aid immediately while waiting for Blacksburg Rescue to arrive. The police report that the individual is dead, and none of the responding officers or deputies were injured.

Both the Blacksburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have said that they are sticking to their procedures on officer-involved shootings. State Police in Virginia are conducting an investigation into this incident.
