Man found guilty of fatally shooting his father in Covington

ALLEGHANY Co., Va. – A jury has decided that Roland Augustine Jeter, Jr. is responsible for the shooting death of his father on March 18 along Chestnut Street in Covington and has found him guilty of first-degree murder.

After his body had been examined, an autopsy determined that Ronald Augustine Jeter, Sr. had died from gunshot wounds to the head. The back of Augustine Srhead .’s was stated to have been hit by two of the three bullets that were detailed by the medical examiner.

The man’s son told Virginia State Police that he shot his father after the two of them got into a fight, the Alleghany County Commonwealth’s Attorney said.

In addition, Jeter Jr. entered a guilty plea to driving under the influence for the second time, which was related to an incident that occurred on January 1, 2022.

Both charges will undergo a sentencing hearing January 9, 2023.
