HOV restriction on Seminary Road for the 395 Express Lanes to lift in September

Drivers who make use of the reversible high-occupancy vehicle ramp on the 395 Express Lanes in Alexandria, Virginia, will see some changes implemented in the next month. Here is the information that you need.

On Thursday, the Virginia Department of Transportation and Transurban, which runs the 495, 95, and 395 Express Lanes, said that the southbound reversible HOV ramp connecting the 395 Express Lanes to Seminary Road in Alexandria will be turned into a standard express lane or a high-occupancy toll ramp on September 9.

This means that cars with fewer than three people can pay a fee to exit the northbound 395 Express Lanes onto Seminary Road or to get onto the southbound lanes from Seminary Road.

The replacement of the ramp’s signs and pavement markings is set to begin overnight on Friday, and as a result, there will be temporary lane restrictions. A one-way temporary traffic change is also going to take place on Seminary Road on Monday and Tuesday.

The HOV-3+ limitation has been in place since the 395 Express Lanes opened in November of 2019. Toll-paying cars are prohibited from using this ramp, which makes it the only one along the Express Lanes corridor with such restrictions.
