Former President Trump will have to begin turning over documents related to Jan. 6 Capitol attack, committee says
The leaders of the House select committee looking into the attack said in a statement that former President Trump will have to start giving over records about the attack on January 6, 2021, starting the following week.
In a statement released on Friday, the chairman of the committee, Bennie Thompson (Democrat of Mississippi), and the vice chair, Liz Cheney (Republican of Wyoming), claimed that they had notified Trump’s counsel of the revised date. According to the terms of the committee’s subpoena, the records were supposed to be given to the committee by the former president by this Friday.
At the end of the committee’s last public meeting a month ago, all of the committee members voted in favor of issuing a subpoena to Donald Trump in order to get documents and testimony from him.
According to Thompson and Cheney, a subpoena has been issued for Donald Trump to appear for a deposition on November 14. They said that they had received contact about the demand from both Trump and his attorney.
The committee wants to talk to him about 19 different aspects of their investigation into the rebellion and their attempts to alter the outcome of the presidential election in 2020. These aspects are detailed in the subpoena that they have issued to him.
Several people who have testified in public hearings in front of the committee since the beginning of the summer have talked about the attempts to change the election results, which led to the riots.
The Hill reached out to Trump via his Save America PAC for comment, but Trump did not immediately respond to the request.
