Drivers should consider alternate routes as repair work to the bridge over Goodwin Avenue anticipated to last a few more days
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Drivers in Roanoke County traveling along Interstate 81 are warned they may face delays in traffic and are advised to seek alternate routes as crews’ repair work is anticipated to last a few more days.
The Virginia Department of Transportation said that the repair work on the bridge over Goodwin Avenue is not expected to be finished until at least Thursday. The bridge was damaged last month by a tractor-trailer crash, and repairs required reinforcement and replacement of a damaged concrete section.
The spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation said there will be a right lane closure on I-81 southbound and mile marker 138.4.
The fact that contractors are already working in the middle of a designated work zone for the expansion project between exits 137 and 141 is another factor that will make delays even worse.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to pay attention to the signs and seek alternate routes in order to avoid delays.
