Deputies say man arrested after drugs found near baby’s crib
MONAVILLE, W.Va. — A man from Logan County faces charges after he was accused of watching two children while he was under the influence of drugs.
Jessey Vance was charged Tuesday with two counts of child neglect causing risk of injury, public intoxication and disorderly conduct after an incident in Monvaville, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said they got a call about a man who was possibly under the influence of drugs and creating a disturbance at the Laurel Wood Apartments.
When they got on scene, deputies said, they saw Vance on a motorized bike riding away from the apartments.
Deputies said they detained Vance because he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. They said Vance told them he had taken several Neurontin pills and a “whole plate of meth.”
When Vance was placed inside the cruiser, deputies said, they were notified that a 5-month-old baby was inside the apartment where Vance had been staying.
Deputies checked the apartment and said they found a baby girl by herself. They said pills and needles were found near her crib. They said a cloth hat that was shoved inside a lamp shade had almost caught on fire.
Deputies also said they located a 5-year-old child near the apartment that Vance had supposedly been babysitting.
The children are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
