During their patrol on James Madison Highway in Haymarket, Virginia, two deputies from Fauquier County assisted a woman who was in labor to deliver her baby. They also wished the newborn a happy birthday, even though it was past the child’s actual birth date.
According to a statement released by the sheriff’s office, on August 13, Deputy Zachary Lawrence was operating a radar when a car pulled over to ask for help.
Lawrence was informed by the driver that her passenger was pregnant and that she did not feel there was enough time for them to make it to the hospital before the baby was born.
After that, Lawrence made contact with another deputy, John Clubb, to ask for his assistance with the situation. The department says that Clubb told the woman that help was on the way, and the driver said that the woman was having contractions less than once per minute.
“MDS Clubb wrapped the baby in a blanket and handed him to his mother. He made sure the airway was not obstructed, and the baby started to cry,” said the sheriff’s office.
Once they arrived, emergency medical services personnel took over the care of the mother and baby and transported the woman to a local hospital.
The woman and her newborn child are both in good health.
