Convicted Jan. 6 rioter receives US Capitol flag from Texas rep
On Friday, Simone Gold, who was condemned to 60 days in jail for her conduct during the January 6, 2021 rebellion, received a flag from the United States Capitol from Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas).
Gold, who created the anti-COVID-19 restriction organization America’s Frontline Doctors and pushed the untested medicine hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 remedy, pled guilty in March to entering or staying in a restricted facility or grounds during the Capitol storming. She was sentenced to sixty days in jail and had to pay a fine of $9,500.
Gohmert said in a press release that Gold is a “American hero” and “patriot.”
“After having her name and reputation shamefully dragged through the mud, the Biden administration’s DOJ threw her in prison for peacefully walking into the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and delivering a speech,” Gohmert said. “Dr. Gold is the definition of what a political prisoner looks like—something I never thought I’d see here in the United States of America.”
He said that Gold gave the world early options for treating COVID-19, which “undoubtedly” saved many lives.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, much research and fact checking have determined that hydroxychloroquine provides no protection against the virus.
“History will not look kindly upon those who persecuted—and prosecuted—doctors who spoke out against the COVID lockdown, mask and vaccine mandates,” Gohmert said.
Gohmert said that after catching COVID-19 in July 2020, he will use hydroxychloroquine as a therapy.
