Company withdrew offer on the nursing home over community backlash
Roanoke, Virginia – There was no change in ownership of the Bedford County Nursing Home on Tuesday.
A special meeting was held on Monday evening to assess whether or not the home should be sold to a Roanoke-based company. To support the sale, the county highlighted issues with regulations, finances, and the coronavirus.
However, the company, American HealthCare, backed out of the meeting at the last minute.
“I really think the main reason was the social media-oriented backlash that was received through different citizens and other groups in the county,” the county administrator, Robert Hiss, said.
Many individuals spoke out against the sale of the home to any company during the meeting on Monday. Many people have said that the care provided at the facility is the best in the region.
Hiss said that the board members are taking community members’ opinions into account as they are planning their next step.
“The board is digesting the comments and emotions that were voiced last night and taking that all under due consideration and at some future time the board will discuss the options that are still present,” Hiss said.
