Community veterans welcome to enroll in a free college-level history class
ROANOKE, Va. – All of our communities’ veterans are welcome to sign up for a semester of conversation and learning.
Veterans are offered a free college-level education via the Clemente Course in Humanities.
They will collaborate with the Roanoke Public Libraries, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
This class, called “Democracy and Duty: Activating Duty,” will look at what makes people want to serve and how to turn that passion into something else.
“When People ask me. I spent 28 years in the military, total. What is it that you miss the most? It’s the community. It’s the camaraderie,” said Veteran and Virginia Tech Professor Jim Dubinsky. “It’s the sense of people knowing who you are, what you do, and why you do it. And I think that’s probably the thing that this provides in addition to an opportunity to learn together.”
The class will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. online and in-person at the Williamson Road Branch Library. Click here to register, or send questions to [email protected].
