The national average gas price was $3.09 per gallon on Monday, which is nearly 12 cents less compared to the week before. According to GasBuddy’s survey, the current national average price of gas is 20 cents cheaper than a year ago and 57.1 cents less compared to a month ago. The current gas prices are a huge relief to millions of Americans who plan to travel for Christmas.
The Roanoke area gas stations follow the nationwide downward trend, and local drivers are paying less for gas compared to the week before. On Monday, the average gas price in the Roanoke area was $3.00 per gallon, which is 9.5 cents per gallon less compared to the week before. Roanoke drivers are paying 37.3 cents per gallon less compared to a month ago, while the current price is 11 cents lower than a year ago.
The price difference between the cheapest and most expensive gas stations in Roanoke was 70 cents on Monday. The GasBuddy data shows that the cheapest gas was sold at $2.69 per gallon, while the most expensive gas station was selling a gallon of gas at $3.39. Statewide, the cheapest gas station was selling a gallon of gas for $2.53, while the most expensive gas was selling at $4.49 per gallon. The price difference between the cheapest and most expensive gas stations across the state of Virginia was $1.96 per gallon.
