Legacy of woman killed in murder-suicide honored with jerseys, scholarship

On Monday night, family and friends of a Chatham woman whose life was tragically taken a year ago honored her legacy.
Purple jerseys worn by members of the Southside Soccer Club are much more than just a uniform. They were designed in honor of Patricia Towler, who many call Tricia.
“Tricia was a huge part of my life and we all miss her a lot,” Christine Marris, Tricia’s sister-in-law said.
“She was a really loving and caring person,” Timothy Harris, Tricia’s brother, said.
Tricia was tragically killed by her husband in a murder-suicide about one year ago near the Dairy Queen in Gretna. When she died, she left behind her two sons, Joshua and Eben.
“She loved her boys and she was very dedicated to Joshua’s soccer career,” Harris said.
Harris wanted to find a way to carry out Tricia’s legacy following her death. As the coach of the southside soccer team, a league where Tricia would watch her oldest son play, she got to thinking.
“And I had the idea of putting the ribbon on the sleeve that represents domestic violence awareness and her initials,” Harris said.
Harris reached out to Angela Martin at the Caswell Family Medical Group to see if she could help. Tricia used to work there as a nurse and later as a clinical operations manager.
Martin and the group were thrilled to support the jerseys.
“We all knew that was a part of who she was and we definitely wanted to do whatever we could to keep her legacy alive,” Martin said.
Family and close friends say that they’re honoring Tricia’s legacy in more than one way.
The Caswell Family Medical Group is working with the Dan River Region to set up a scholarship in her name for upcoming nursing students. The scholarship will be available in the months to come.
