Campbell County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in connection with a murder in Appomattox County
ALTAVISTA — The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office has announced that they have taken a suspect into custody in connection with a recent murder.
The sheriff’s office of Appomattox County stated that Dashawn Hamlett, 23, of Campbell County, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in a felony in connection with the death of Jason Marcus, 40, of Appomattox County. Jason Marcus was found dead in Appomattox County.
After receiving a call about a suspicious person in the 1000 block of Leesville Road on Monday, deputies discovered the deceased Marcus at the wheel of a car.
The murder happened on Sunday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office that was released on the same day as the arrest.
The sheriff’s office claimed that Hamlett was taken into custody on Tuesday following a car pursuit in Altavista that concluded in the 5500 block of Wards Road. The incident began in the 800 block of Wards Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, Hamlett is being detained without bail and further charges are expected to be brought against him.
