Branch Group inviting girls to take part in construction experience program

ROANOKE, Va. – The girls of Star City are going to spend the day learning building skills.

Girls will have the chance to participate in a program called “G.I.R.L Construction Experience” thanks to a collaboration between Branch Group and Girls Scouts of Virginia Skyline.

This coming Saturday, one hundred young women between the ages of five and eighteen will get the opportunity to don hard hats and go to work on a construction project.

They will be able to get hands-on experience with real-life building ideas in an environment that is entertaining, secure, and free of judgment.

According to Aisha Johnson, who is a Branch Group Economic Inclusion, Diversity, and EEO Specialist, the event is designed to encourage young women to seek a career in the STEM fields.

“Having young ladies come at a very early age and getting exposed to construction careers,” said Johnson. “A lot of young women may not consider a career in construction, and we want to show them all the various different options are and what that career could look like and how it could work for them.”

In the future, the company intends to hold events that are comparable to these.
