Authorities discovered weapons, explosives in a Henry County home following an arrest
HENRY CO., Va. – The arrest of a man in Henry County on Tuesday evening led to the discovery of a variety of firearms as well as homemade explosives.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, on October 4 at approximately 10:10 p.m., Henry County deputies were in the process of arresting Barry Wayne Witt at 55 Raceway Drive for two outstanding warrants for contempt of court when they discovered a weapon. The warrants were for contempt of court.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Witt was not allowed to have the gun, and another arrest warrant was issued for Witt for buying, having, or transporting a gun while he was involuntarily committed.
The police were successful in obtaining a warrant to search the residence. They said that throughout the search, numerous guns, along with three things that are thought to be explosive devices, were discovered.
After the Virginia State Police were called, State Police Bomb Technicians took apart the homemade explosives in a safe way and said they were safe.
At this time, Witt is being held without the benefit of a bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
The investigation is still on, and the Sheriff’s Office has indicated that it is very probable that more charges will be brought.
