54 Maryland, Virginia CVS pharmacies to offer COVID vaccines starting Thursday

Dates, availability, locations in flux as CVS, Walgreens offer COVID-19 vaccinations in Va., Md.

Eligible residents in Maryland and Virginia can get a COVID-19 vaccine at certain CVS Pharmacy stores as early as Thursday.
The pharmacy chain is not releasing the list of specific stores ahead of time and patients will have to use the online appointment scheduling tools to find out where to get the shot. The states will have a combined 54 locations offering vaccinations.
Eighteen Maryland stores in Baltimore, Bowie, Chester, Frederick, Fulton, Hagerstown, Ocean City, and Rockville will get doses.
Virginia’s 36 CVS locations include the communities of Abingdon, Alexandria, Arlington, Bedford, Blacksburg, Charlottesville, Chatham, Chesapeake, Danville, Dublin, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, Gainesville, Hampton, Harrisonburg, Leesburg, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Mechanicsville, Midlothian, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Richmond, Roanoke, Rocky Mount, Stafford, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Warrenton, Williamsburg, Winchester and Woodstock.
Also starting Thursday, the pharmacy will offer vaccinations to eligible groups at specific stores in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Caroline and Texas. The initial 250,000 doses will come directly from the federal government.
Appointments can be made as early as Tuesday using the appointment scheduler on CVS.com or the CVS app and will detail where doses are available.
“Washington, DC is not one of the eleven ‘states’ we were assigned by the CDC, so we are not currently able to provide vaccinations in store in DC,” a CVS spokesperson told ABC7 News reporter Victoria Sanchez in an email.
According to a Feb. 2 press release, CVS has nearly 10,000 U.S. locations. More than 90,000 healthcare workers will help with the vaccination administration effort, “giving CVS Pharmacy the capacity to administer 20–25 million shots per month.”
