Skunk in Bland County tests positive for rabies

BLAND COUNTY, Va. – As a result of a positive rabies test performed on a skunk in Bland County, the local health authority is requesting that anybody who may have come into contact with the skunk come forward.

According to the Mount Rogers Health District, the Bland County Health Department, and the Virginia Department of Health, a skunk exhibiting “strange behavior” was sighted on October 28 in the 100 block of Church Hill Lane. The skunk may have had contact with cats or dogs in the area.

Anyone in the region whose animals have come into contact with a skunk is strongly encouraged to get in touch with the local health authority at the number 276-688-3642.

Residents are strongly encouraged to make sure their pets are up-to-date on their rabies shots.
