Dick and Willie Passage Rail Trail will soon be much longer

HENRY COUNTY, Va. – The Dick and Willie Passage Rail Trail is about to be extended, so get your biking gear or your hiking boots because it’s about to grow much longer.

The Appalachian Regional Commission gave Henry County a grant for $665,000.00 to help pay for the building of the Dick and Willie.

At this point, the path is divided into two distinct halves. The length of one of the routes is two and a half miles, while the length of the other track is four and a half miles.

The two trails will be connected using this money to create a brand new route that is 11 miles long.

“It’s a great resource for the community here and also for folks to come in from out of town,” said Roger Adam, director of Henry County Parks and Recreation. “It would be a great day or weekend trip to come here and bike in Martinsville and Henry County and take in the beautiful sights here like Phillpott Lake and all the other amenities.”

The construction of the route has already begun and it is anticipated that it will be finished by the end of the following year.

The path is still open for usage throughout that period of time.
