Roanoke police deemed juvenile’s gunshot death accidental

According to information released by Roanoke police on Monday, the shooting death of a juvenile boy in Roanoke on Saturday was most likely unintentional.

At 10:30 in the morning, an emergency call stated that a person in the 2700 block of Hoover Street Northwest had been shot and was bleeding heavily. The caller reportedly informed the authorities that the victim was being transported to LewisGale Medical Center by private transportation.

The boy’s condition was reportedly stabilized before he was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later passed away.

“All parties involved are cooperating with investigating detectives. No arrests have been made at this time and this remains an ongoing investigation,” a city police news release said.

The identity of the victim was not made public.
