Tenet Healthcare named former Nebraska governor as chairman

The Tenet Healthcare Corporation made the announcement on Monday that former Nebraska Governor and current Democratic Senator Bob Kerrey will be taking over as the company’s new chairman.

According to the filing, Chairman Ronald Rittenmeyer of the health care firm located in Dallas resigned from his position effective Saturday due to personal health issues. On the same day, Kerrey was selected for the position.

Following his tenure as lead director on Tenet’s Board of Directors, the former senator was promoted to the post of chairman of the board. According to the filing, Kerrey became a member of the board in the year 2001.

According to the filing, the number of members on the board has been cut down to 10 now that he has been elected chairman.

Richard Fisher, a former president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, retired four-star Navy Adm. Cecil Haney, and Tammy Romo, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Southwest Airlines, are some of the members of the board who have joined Kerrey since he was appointed to the position.

According to his biography on Tenet’s website, Kerrey also works as the managing director of the investment banking business Allen & Company and as the executive chairman of the nonprofit Minerva Institute for Research and Scholarship.

Before being elected to the United States Senate, where he served from 1989 to 2000, Bob Kerrey held the office of governor of Nebraska for a brief period of time. In 1992, he also ran for the nomination of the Democratic Party to be president.

According to the document, he has a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.

In addition to being the leader of Conifer Health Solutions and United Surgical Partners International, Tenet is in charge of the operation of hundreds of surgical centers, hospitals, and outpatient clinics.
