Virginia Tech officials with positive reactions about on-campus tailgate, second student entrance

BLACKSBURG, Va. – This past weekend, not only did Virginia Tech come out on top on the football field, but administrators at the school also reported that their recently implemented on-campus tailgating experience was a smashing success.

The university added a second student entrance into Lane Stadium in an effort to reduce the number of people inside the stadium while also making game-day activities more enjoyable.

Mark Owczarski, a university spokesman, said that these changes aren’t done yet, but that they are being made so that students can enjoy game day without worrying about getting hurt.

“I think we are off to a good start and I think our students responded in a manner that said, ‘We are going to check things out and they are open to new ideas and new traditions,’” said Owczarski.

Owczarski said that there are additional options that might be considered to assist Hokie fans in adjusting to these changes. One of these ideas is to invite some “Hokie legends” to meet students at the stadium’s entrance.
