One taken into custody in connection with February homicide in Pittsylvania Co.

PITTSYLVANIA Co., Va. – Daniel Wayne Neal, age 28, of Gretna, was taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred along Boxwood Road in February.

He is accused of the murder of Charles Van Hooker, whose body was discovered by deputies on February 11 morning. The Medical Examiner determined that Hooker’s death was the result of a gunshot wound.

According to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Neal is also charged with entering a residence with the purpose of committing murder, rape, robbery, or arson, as well as using or displaying a handgun during a crime.

He is being detained without bail in the Pittsylvania County Jail, and his first court appearance has not yet been set.
