RICHMOND, Va. — According to the COVID Community Levels published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), universal masking is advised in 52 different communities around the Commonwealth of Virginia, but the majority of Metro Richmond maintains its ranking as medium (CDC).
According to the most recent data provided by the Virginia Department of Health, the state’s 7-day positive rate has decreased to 21.5%, new cases have increased by slightly over 1% in the last week, and 82.5% of Virginians aged 18 and older have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicated in its weekly update that the seven-day moving average for COVID cases in the United States had been reduced by 6.7% as of August 24 and that 83.8% of the country’s total population (those 5+) had gotten at least one vaccination dose.
On Thursday, September 8, the agency disseminated an updated version of the map, which had county-by-county color designations to indicate whether or not citizens should wear masks.
“There are three levels (low, medium, and high), which are determined by looking at hospital beds being used by patients with COVID-19, new hospital admissions among people with COVID-19, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in your area,” CDC officials wrote.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing a mask inside in 52 different localities in Virginia. Caroline County, Charles City County, Colonial Heights County, Dinwiddie County, Goochland County, Hopewell County, King William County, Nottoway County, Orange County, Prince Edward County, and Richmond County are all on this list.
There are 49 places in the Commonwealth that currently rate as medium. These include Amelia, Buckingham, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Greene, Hanover, Henrico, King & Queen, King George, Lancaster, Louisa, Lunenburg, Middlesex, New Kent, Northumberland, Petersburg, Powhatan, Prince George, and the City of Richmond.
Thirty-two localities now rank as low.
