Lynchburg Police Citizens Police Academy is now accepting applications

LYNCHBURG, Va. -A session of the Citizens Police Academy is going to get under way on September 15 thanks to the efforts of the Lynchburg Police Department.

According to the NYPD, this program will provide community members with “an opportunity to learn about department operations and related trends in law enforcement” over the course of nine weeks. The training program will cover a wide range of topics, such as the LPD’s service philosophy, different types of patrol, criminal investigations, traffic control, special operations, getting to know the equipment, and laws about arrests.

Classes will be conducted each week on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. in the LPD West Building, which is located at 805 Court Street. Participants are strongly urged to show up for each of the nine sessions. Because there is no cost to participate, but only a certain number of spots are available, applications will be evaluated based on who submits them first. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and their criminal records will be checked before they are taken into consideration.

Applications may be printed out from this website or picked up between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily at the LPD Information Desk located at 905 Court Street. Applications in whole have to be handed in at the LPD Information Desk before 5 o’clock. Wednesday, September 13.
