Delivery of free COVID-19 at-home tests will be stopped Friday

The delivery of free COVID-19 at-home tests that originally started at the beginning of January will soon come to an end due to insufficient funding, according to officials.

An announcement that appears at the top of the COVID.gov website states that orders would be stopped on Friday “because Congress hasn’t provided additional funding to replenish the nation’s stockpile of tests.”

According to NPR, the deadline for placing orders is until Friday, September 2.

The website was created in mid-January, after the Biden administration was criticized for test shortages as the omicron variant surged throughout the country.

As of last May, a total of 350 million tests had been sent to families throughout the country, according to the White House.
