DUI crash resulted in passenger death

Buchanan County, Va. – The Virginia State Police said a single-vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday in Buchanan County resulted in the death of a man.

The collision, according to the police, took place on westbound Route 460, just west of Route 460 business.

Big Rock resident Demarco Stacy, age 21, was traveling west on Route 460 in a Chevrolet Silverado when he went off the right side of the road, collided with a curb and a railing, and overturned the vehicle. The passenger, identified as 18-year-old Vansant resident Kaleb Johnson, was declared dead at the site of the accident. According to the police, he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Stacy was arrested for driving under the influence, but police also claim speeding may have had a role in the accident.
