Pittsylvania County firefighter slowly recovering after a serious crash in July

PITTSYLVANIA COUNY, Va. – A Pittsylvania County fireman experienced a remarkable turn of events.

A Facebook post from the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department says that Thomas Page, who was hurt in a serious accident in July, is now awake, can stand on his own, and can respond to simple commands.

A Pittsylvania County fireman was sent to the hospital in serious condition after what some were calling a highway tragedy.

As previously reported, Page was traveling eastbound on I-64 when a suspected intoxicated motorist crossed lanes and sideswiped him. According to authorities, both drivers pulled over on the right shoulder to exchange information, but the other motorist immediately pulled off and struck him, forcing him into oncoming traffic.

However, things are now taking a turn for the better.

This week, Jacqueline, Page’s wife, updated her Facebook page with the following: “When I say things have literally turned around since yesterday, they have … Thomas has had an amazing day! He was able to turn his head when spoke to, he was able to move his right hand to his lips, smile when asked, even blowing kisses.”

The Hurt Volunteer Fire Department expressed gratitude for the outpouring of community support.

The Lynchburg Texas Road House at 3816 Wards Road will host a fundraiser for Thomas on August 30 from 4 to 10 p.m. 10% of your purchase price will be given to his family.
