Increase in traffic from May to June recorded at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport
Roanoke, Virginia – A 12% increase in traffic from May to June is reported by the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport as the leisure travel continues to rebound. Officials reported 5,304 passengers more flew in June whether than in May.
But despite the increase in passengers in 2021, a 25% decrease in traffic from June 2019 is shown in the year-over-year comparison. A total of 46,654 passengers flew in June 2021 while in June 2019 that number was nearly 63,000.
“Passengers are more comfortable with the measures taken by the airports and airlines to ensure their safety. Lower overall airfare has stimulated leisure demand, and as airlines rebuild their schedules, it is critical to use our current service not only to keep it but also to have more restored and help our regional economy recover. Air service will be even more important when our business customers return to the sky. We continue to appreciate the community support for choosing ROA and not driving out of the market to fly,” interim executive director of the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, David Jeavons said.
The airport is open and operating, and in order to keep it as safe as possible for passengers, increased cleaning protocols are established.
