Law enforcement took part in Special Olympics Torch Run in Roanoke County
Roanoke County, Virginia – Local law enforcement members took part in the Torch Run for Special Olympics Virginia.
For officers, this is an annual tradition. Each year, they cross a total of 22,000 miles, bike and walk combined. Thousands of dollars are raised over the 8-day period through this event.
“It means a lot to us and Special Olympics, to keep officers motivated and raising money, that sort of thing. Just encouraging athletes to get back on the field by us getting back out there,” says Scott Young with the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Special Olympics Summer Games were canceled in 2020.
