6 people hospitalized after shooting near Memphis hospital
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Six people were injured overnight after a shooting near a Memphis hospital.
Memphis Police Department confirmed the shooting happened near Methodist North Hospital on Covington Pike around 12:47 a.m. Tuesday. The victims then arrived at Methodist North Hospital, WMC reported.
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare said the six patients were taken to Regional One and Le Bonheur hospitals.
Two people were taken to Le Bonheur in critical condition, one of whom is now non-critical. Four others were rushed to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, one of whom improved to non-critical, according to the police.
Investigators said all of the victims were reportedly shot by a suspect in a black SUV.
No hospital employees were harmed.
Three of the victims involved are detained. Investigators said they were in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare released a statement following the incident that reads in part: “We appreciate the swift action from our employees to guide patients away from the ED waiting area so our security team and Memphis Police Department could respond quickly. We are working with local law enforcement who are continuing to investigate. The hospital is not on lockdown at this time.”
Police said the investigation continues.
