One person fatally shot in Oyster Point part of Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Officers have said that a person was fatally shot on Friday afternoon in the Oyster Point part of Newport News.

According to the Newport News Police Department, the shooting took place in the 300 block of Oyster Point Road. It is close to the Oyster Point Plaza Shopping Center.

Crystal Mittelstadter, 51, was found in a parking lot just before 1:30 p.m. by responding police officers suffering from a gunshot wound. Mittelstadter was declared dead at the scene.

Following their investigation, the police said that there had been some type of altercation in the parking lot that was related to road rage.

After police reviewed surveillance footage from the area and spoke to a person of interest, As-Siddiq Abdul-Aziz, 22, has been charged in connection with the shooting.

Late on Friday night, police officers arrested Abdul-Aziz and took him to the Newport News City Jail.
