Tenants assisted by Legal Aid Society of Roanoke Valley to access rent relief

Roanoke, Virginia – People are stepping up to help tenants after the CDC’s eviction moratorium expired couple of days ago.
According to the Census Bureau, millions of people in the U.S. are most likely to be evicted from their homes, and some of those people are in the Roanoke area.
Through the state rent relieve program, more than $500 million are available for Virginians, according to the Legal Aid Society of Roanoke Valley.
Till now, the organization has helped over 30 applicants to receive around $300,000 in aid.
“Just in the last week we’ve received another sixty applications, and so that has the potential of doubling the amount of money that we’ve already helped tenants get. And we don’t think that that’s going to slow down any time soon,” said David Beidler, general counsel of Legal Aid Society of Roanoke Valley.
Tenants in the Roanoke Valley first need to determine whether they’re eligible for The Legal Aid Society’s Free legal services by filling out an application online at www.lasrv.org or by calling 540-344-2080. Legal Aid attorney will contact tenants after eligibility requirements are determined, helping them access rent relief and offering legal protections.
